What's your favorite cosmic body? Empty What's your favorite cosmic body?

Post by Stargazer_Cosmic_2005.588 Mon Jul 15, 2024 7:41 pm

Although I've made my career out of channeling the stardust that floats throughout the universe into practical and wondrous magics, I am aware that most have a simpler grasp on the infinite expanse we call "The Cosmos."

So I ask of you all, what's your favorite cosmic body? Is it a planet? A star? A constellation? Are you able to comprehend the monsters that writhes behind those distant glittering balls of gas?

I'd love to hear a layman's perspective!

I like the star Polaris. Its stable position makes it pretty useful for rituals as well as navigation for non-wizards.

Impressive body! Though not cosmic in nature as far as I can see. Please draw you attention to the stars above and try again.

Few would know it outside of the field of Cosmostrology, but it's also the most attractive star! Polaris has had to fend off many suitors attempting to woo it into some political marriage or another. This is well known amongst experts.

You know there are *other* bodies that grow carrots, yes?

Earth soil comes in a variety of different densities and compositions, providing for ample and diverse carrot opportunities. Very few celestial bodies even come close to the makeup of the most fertile earth soil, clocking in at between 2.6 to 2.7 g/cm3 with humidity and 1.1 and 1.6 g/cm3 when measured dry. The ideal soil profile for maximum nutritional carrot growth is a light sandy loam, although in a pinch, clay soils will do if they are well-drained and not compacted. Not only are these particular soil profiles difficult to find on other planets, they are typically infested with more aggressive flora, which take in more nutrients than are required and drain the soil for the weaker flora such as carrots. Carrots are native to Earth, evolved to Earth conditions, co-habit well with other Earthen flora, and as such, there is no better celestial body in which to grow them.

Personally I like the stars Beetlegeuse and Rigel, from the constellation Orion. They were the first stars my master taught me after Polaris, and I can find them without even thinking about it.

Jupiter is my favourite movement in Gustav Holst's 'The Planets' suite, but I don't know if it's the cosmic body I would say I associate myself with the most. Maybe one of it's moons? I'd have to look into them more though to say definitively.

Ah! Perhaps you're the pupil of a fellow Astronomologist? Lovely choices. I really aught to talk to Orion more often. We're on friendly enough terms but after him and I brought the same dish to a cosmic potluck I just couldn't bare to face him again.

His artichoke dip is simply to die for. It takes a big person to admit when they've made an inferior dip. And by the stars was my artichoke dip inferior.

Dreadfully embarrassing.

Sadly, my Master was a Shadowmancer before she retired. That said, I imagine there are areas of overlap when you spend a lot of time out at night to cast spells.

Perhaps you could try again with the artichoke dip as a testament to personal growth? I am sure someone as detail oriented as you has long since identified your weaknesses regarding the dip.

If you do try again I would be happy to taste test.

MY PERSONAL FAVOURITE IS THE SHADOW MOON OF YODGOLA

Though must shalt not have heard of it, so for the more laypeople, the Moon itself is a close second.

Earth's cosmic dance partner is, I imagine, the favorite for most. Quite the stunning specimen she is too. Quite large in size relative to Earth itself and just the right size to create the wondrous sight of a near perfect solar eclipse. One of these days I'll work up the courage to strike up conversation with her, but she's quite the celebrity. Quite intimidating. Ah! But there I go sounded like a schoolboy with a crush on the girl a few rows ahead of him.

Yodgola has her own charms too, of course, but I think you're correcting in assuming a layman would be incapable of comprehending them. Maybe if they were able to see what one of Yodgola's eclipses is like they'd change their tune! Haha!
