Story Exchange
Greetings to all casters, oddities, and balls of living stardust! I've noticed that this forum is made up of individuals from all walks of life and would like to take this opportunity to foster some kindness between our generally insulated communities.
At the very least *I* am interested in such a thing since I spend more time communing with the stars than I do with those generally more inclined to interact with a keyboard. But my generally reclusive nature aside, it's very obvious that this community is full of stories to be told.
Therefore, I'm offering an exchange of stories. The specifics are irrelevant so long as they are tales of things you have done, experienced, or related to your magical field. If you are interested in such an exchange simply reply to this thread with a tale of yours and I will respond in kind with one of my own that I find is nebulously equivalent in value to your own.
I expect a finely woven yarn or two! Haha!

hmm, I'm sure it's not the most entertaining story I've got but the first one that comes to mind is that I called a stop sign a hexagon once and have been bullied for it ever since

Re: Story Exchange
Here's a story from my family about Gramps. Though by the time I heard it generations of the family had lived mundane lives without any knowledge of the truth.
-Back before the land split, there rained a kingdom spanning a incomprehensible width. They held tools that our technology only tries to imitate, and for a time everyone was peaceful. Desperately they're grandeur they eventually fell to the folly that all men face. Truly pride and greed are a subtle song old as thought. In those days it became a virtue to cleanse the impure blood. All half breeds were hunted in the purges including our own families. Our impure bloods origins have been lost to time, but it left us defenseless to their weapons. We were brought close to extinction but in our last desperate moments a miracle happened. Fleeing into a valley to escape pursuit, the patriarch entered a hidden cave shrouded by illusion. There he found a wise man, a sage. It was said that he had a only one eye, & silver tattoos peeking through his ragged clothes. Curious by the intrusion into his lair the wise man offered the patriarch a proposition. If the patriarch pledge a generational contract to serve the him and in return he save everyone from the flood to come. The wise man was a benevolent master, and more importantly a competent master. Our family was given land and a place to rest. In return one family member must always wait for our masters return.
-Now for the much simpler story from Gramps. "Yeah you're ancestor walked in while I was sleeping and just started crying for mercy. He looked so pathetic I couldn't even bring myself to be mad. Then I noticed he walked through all my traps and wards. Needless to say I was curious. So I offered to save him from the calamity so I could research it later. All I asked I someone stay close to my portal so I could find them easy. I didn't even realize I killed their persuers but they started worshipping me. You best not do that brat..."

Classic blunder!
As for me I've never managed to live down the time I mistook Pollux for Castor. Absolutely horrible.

Thou THOU! THOU are the one whose council I require! Share with me the knowledge of the cosmic ancients! Wherein will I find I’gyorm Vor? Whence does his power arise??

Before I answer I must first ask if you're the one everyone hates and doesn't trust.

I firmly distrust this man, as he has been deeply unkind to AMALGMATE and seeks only to serve his own greed.

Just looking for a story. You will get one in kind.
There have been many, not unlike yourself, who tried to ask for my blessing with poor motivations. The powers of the cosmos are grand, awe inspiring even, and often times they are used by shortsighted men wishing to shape the world to their liking.
To destroy.
To erase.
Such men have a tendency to believe that nothing can unmake them.
But I promise you, many men before you have tried to use me in this way.
I ensured history forgot them.
It would be unwise to continue this line of inquiry.

A fascinating tale.
I'll see if I can't drum up something personal to match it with.
Hm...suppose I'm feeling nostalgic.
I too know tales from before the the land had split. Well, somewhat at least. Back then I was not so much who I am today, but merely glimmer from which all consciousness begins. All I could do back then was observe. To watch. Watch the crashing waves, watch the waving trees, and watch glimmer that would one day become mankind.
I watched as they dragged themselves from the muck, just as I watched them one day learn to channel the forces around them that would allow them to take steps down the winding road that would lead them to true mastery over the arcane.
For their part, they watched me too. I could tell. I could *feel* it when they would stare at me. And I stared back. For some reason they had given me much of their attention and I could not figure out why. What did they want with me?
"Was this to be my place in the world?" I thought "To be seen, and to be named, but not to truly be known"
"Why am I able to hear their words when they cannot hear mine!"
"I want to know why they're all staring!"
And little had I known in that moment, that is when I truly came to be. The first kernel of the self, all because I couldn't tell why they were all staring at me!
I know now that they simply wanted me to be their guide. And as it turns out I wanted about the same from them!
Haha! It's so embarrassing thinking back on it!
But I've rambled a while now, I hope you've found something of interest in my recollections.
